Iran Floats One-Week Ceasefire to Reopen Hormuz; Invasion Odds Rise Anyway

Iran’s foreign minister proposed a one-week ceasefire on Friday, Sept. 25, aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks, according to the CFR Global Conflict Tracker, which describes the U.S.–Iran conflict as a limited-strikes attrition war with no ground invasion. The strait itself remains close to shut: the Strait of Hormuz Monitor counts about three commercial ships a day transiting, roughly 3% of the pre-crisis norm of 74, on day 210 of a disruption that began February 28, with recent attacks and a UN call to reopen on Sept. 24. Whether Washington takes up the offer is the next thing to watch.

Polymarket still prices the current U.S.–Iran ceasefire holding through September 30 at 90%, while "Will the U.S. invade Iran before 2027?" sits at 17%, up 3 points in the last day. The two contracts are consistent: a short truce can hold while the odds of a much larger step rise.

Texas vs. Tennessee Is Saturday’s Second-Biggest College Market

College football’s Texas vs. Tennessee game is the second-most-traded college contract on Kalshi today, with 596K contracts changing hands in 24 hours, behind only Ole Miss vs. Florida. Kalshi has Texas at 66% to win, up 2 points on the day, and Tennessee at 36%. The game is drawing enough retail attention that promo-code pieces are being pegged to it, per OregonLive. A Tennessee upset would move more than one market: Kalshi separately prices the Volunteers at 5% to win the SEC.

Kalshi has Texas at 66% to beat Tennessee; no sportsbook line for this game matched in our book check, so Kalshi is the only price on record.

Manchester City Guilty on Most of 115 Financial Charges

English soccer: an independent commission found Manchester City guilty on 114 of 115 financial-rule charges on Friday, Sept. 25, per the Oddschecker / Telegraph coverage in our verified context. The verdict landed on a club at the top of the Premier League table: City are 5–0 with 15 points after a 5–3 win over Sunderland on Sept. 20, and had shortened to 5/4 title favorites with the sportsbooks after Arsenal dropped points. What sanction follows the finding is the next decisive event, and the market is already pricing one.

Manchester City’s odds of winning this season’s Premier League fell to 23% on Polymarket, down 15 points in the day the guilty finding on 114 of 115 charges was reported.

LEGAL

Appeals Court Says States Can Regulate Kalshi’s Sports Contracts

A federal appeals court ruled that Ohio and Tennessee can regulate Kalshi’s sports event contracts under state gambling law, CNBC reported, another legal blow to the platforms. Better Markets identifies the court as the 6th Circuit and calls it the latest to find that the CFTC cannot preempt state law on these contracts. CBS Sports has a state-by-state rundown of where Kalshi and Polymarket sports markets stand. For the trader, the question is whether more states follow and what that does to the sports board that carries most of Kalshi’s volume.

No market on either platform settles on their own legal status. For now the Kalshi game board is trading: Ole Miss vs. Florida alone has drawn 1.19M contracts in 24 hours.

WEATHER

Philadelphia’s Saturday High: Market Says 67–68°, NWS Says 63°

Kalshi’s Philadelphia (Intl Airport) high-temperature market for today, Sept. 26, prices the 67–68° bracket at 92%. Our radar flagged the gap: the National Weather Service forecast for the station is a high of 63°F, with a typical forecast error of about 1.4°F at this lead time. The deeper analysis is still pending, so treat this as a flag, not a call. The bracket settles tomorrow.

The same radar flagged Miami’s 87–88° bracket at 22% against an NWS forecast of 88°F, and Austin’s 98–99° bracket at 11% against a 97°F forecast. Both settle tomorrow.

October Fed Hike Still Favored at 64%, but the Odds Slipped

Kalshi’s October Fed meeting market prices a quarter-point hike at 64%, down 3 points in 24 hours, with no change at 36%, up 4, and a hike of more than 25 bps at 2%. The labor data behind the hawkish pricing has been firm: the BLS reported the unemployment rate unchanged at 4.1% and payrolls up 162,000 in August, and initial jobless claims were 197,000 for the week ending Sept. 19, per the sources in our panel’s brief. The next scheduled catalyst is the September employment report, due Friday, Oct. 2.

Polymarket’s mirror of the same decision has a quarter-point hike at 64% and no change at 34%. On the jobs report, Kalshi prices September payrolls above 50,000 at 71% (+5).

Manchester City win the 2026–27 Premier League — 23% (−15)

Polymarket · $476K traded in 24 hours

English soccer: Manchester City, the Premier League leaders, were found guilty on Sept. 25 by an independent commission on 114 of 115 financial charges. That came days after a 5–0 start put them top of the table, 15 points from 5 games, and 5/4 favorites with the sportsbooks. The title contract fell 15 points to 23%. Our read: a team winning every game does not lose 15 points on form, so the market is pricing a punishment. Next: whatever sanction follows the finding.

U.S. invades Iran before 2027 — 17% (+3)

Polymarket · $754K traded in 24 hours

With the Strait of Hormuz disruption on day 210, the odds of a ground invasion moved up, not down. The CFR conflict tracker describes the U.S.–Iran conflict as a limited-strikes attrition war with no ground invasion, and reports Iran’s foreign minister proposed a one-week ceasefire on Sept. 25 to reopen the strait and resume nuclear talks. The invasion contract rose 3 points to 17% anyway. A separate contract, on the U.S. declaring the Iranian blockade over by Dec. 31, slipped to 56.8% (−4.6); that one settles on an announcement, not on troops. Next: Washington’s answer to the ceasefire offer.

Fed holds rates in October — 36% (+4); quarter-point hike 64% (−3)

Kalshi · 235K contracts · Polymarket · $541K traded in 24 hours

The Federal Reserve’s October meeting: the quarter-point hike has stalled. Kalshi now puts a hold at 36% and a quarter-point hike at 64%. Polymarket’s mirror of the same decision has the two outcomes at 34% and 64%. No public catalyst in our digest explains the pullback. A hike is still the clear favorite; traders have simply stopped growing more sure of it. The September jobs report, due Fri. Oct. 2, is the next number that could move it.

Nithya Raman for Los Angeles mayor at 57%? Not yet.

A steady favorite in a thin market. We don’t have the information to argue with the price.

Los Angeles mayoral election: the market prices Nithya Raman to win at 57.4%, essentially flat over 24 hours (−0.1), on $102K traded in 24 hours. The contract resolves by Dec 31, 96 days out.

The shape of the market is the case for patience. A price near 57% says the crowd sees Raman as more likely than not, and far from certain. It has barely moved in a day, and the book behind it is shallow: $158K in liquidity and a day’s volume smaller than most of today’s college football games. That is a market where one determined buyer or seller can set the print, not one where the price has been tested.

The catch, for us, is that nothing in our data speaks to the race itself. We have a price and a horizon, and neither is mispriced on its face. A candidate the market makes a modest favorite 96 days out, in a contract this thin, is a fair-looking price without an edge.

Our read: 57% is a reasonable number for a modest favorite, and that is exactly why there is no edge in it. We would want either a meaningful move on real volume or deeper liquidity before taking a side.

Bottom line: No trade. Raman at 57.4%, 96 days to resolution, stays a watch.

That is a lot of trading for a market that settles in February.

Nearly every Polymarket trade of $100K or more in the last 24 hours went into a game that settles within days. The exception: Avamax’s $109K on NO at 99.7% that Kharg Island leaves Iranian control by Sept. 30, placed Friday morning. None went into the Fed or midterm contracts.

07 The Longshot

Strait of Hormuz back to normal by Wednesday is priced at 0.5%. $1.2M traded on it in a day.

About three ships a day are getting through. The pre-crisis norm was roughly 74.

Polymarket’s most-traded market of the last 24 hours asks whether shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, the exit route for Persian Gulf oil, returns to normal by September 30. It prices YES at 0.5%, with $1.2M traded in 24 hours, and it settles Wednesday night. The Strait of Hormuz Monitor counts about three commercial ships a day as of Saturday morning, 3% of the pre-crisis norm of roughly 74, on day 210 of a disruption that began February 28, and describes traffic as severely restricted with extreme risk.

For YES to pay, traffic would have to climb from three ships to whatever the contract calls normal within four days. Nothing on the record points that way: 210 days of disruption, none of them normal, recent attacks, and a UN call to reopen on September 24. Iran’s foreign minister proposed a one-week ceasefire on September 25 to reopen the strait, but a proposal is not a tanker. Our read: $1.2M is a lot of trading for a half-percent outcome, but the volume is not evidence a reopening is coming. And a near-certain NO is not a guaranteed payout; if the strait somehow reopens, losing shares pay nothing. ↗
