Texas Erases 20-Point Fourth-Quarter Hole, Beats Ohio State 24-23

College football: No. 4 Texas rallied from 20 points down in the fourth quarter to beat No. 1 Ohio State 24-23 in Austin. Arch Manning led three touchdown drives, and the Buckeyes missed a 45-yard field goal before Texas finished the comeback. The win puts Texas in position to take No. 1 in Sunday’s AP poll and gives the Longhorns an early signature result for the playoff committee. Ohio State remains a contender, but its path to a top seed and a first-round bye just narrowed.

Ohio State’s collapse did not dent its Big Ten hopes on Kalshi, where the Buckeyes still lead the conference-title market at 38% (up 6 points). One Polymarket bettor fared worse: a whale bought Ohio State to win at 87% for $119K during the game, and Texas’s rally wiped that position out.

Oklahoma State Stuns No. 6 Oregon, Ends 21-Game FBS Skid

College football: Oklahoma State upset No. 6 Oregon 39-31 in Stillwater, ending a 12-game overall losing streak and a 21-game skid against FBS opponents. Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns and added 109 rushing yards and the go-ahead score. Oregon is now expected to fall outside the top 10, which hurts the Big Ten’s early playoff profile and leaves the Ducks little room for another loss. Oklahoma State goes from national afterthought to one of the season’s most disruptive wild cards.

Oregon’s Big Ten title odds on Kalshi fell 14 points to 10% after the Stillwater upset. In the same market, Indiana climbed 9 points to 28%, behind Ohio State’s 38%.

Rybakina Beats Sabalenka for U.S. Open and No. 1

Women’s tennis: Elena Rybakina beat Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 to win the U.S. Open and take the world No. 1 ranking. Rybakina took the trophy Sabalenka had won two years running and will replace her atop the rankings this week. It is Rybakina’s third major title and her second of 2026, both won by beating Sabalenka on hard courts. Their rivalry is now the defining matchup heading into the season-ending championships and the 2027 Australian Open.

With the women’s trophy decided, today’s men’s final is next. Polymarket and Kalshi both price Alexander Zverev at 59% to beat Ben Shelton, whose Kalshi contract sits at 43%.

Iranian Cargo Ship Strike Kills One in Strait of Hormuz

Middle East shipping: Iran’s state media says a commercial cargo ship was struck near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz early Sunday, killing one person and wounding four. A British maritime monitor separately reported that a vessel transiting the strait had been hit by a projectile, though it was unclear whether both reports described the same attack. The strike adds another threat to an energy corridor already running with sharply reduced commercial traffic amid the Iran war. Watch for attribution, any U.S. military response, and Tehran’s planned Monday briefing on how it is managing shipping through the strait.

The strike keeps pressure on Polymarket’s market on Strait of Hormuz traffic returning to normal by December 31, priced at just 21%. The market on the U.S. invading Iran before 2027 ticked up a point to 16%, and the Iranian regime falling before 2027 sits at 7%.

Judge Blocks Trump Administration’s Planned 50% FEMA Staffing Cut

Federal disaster response: a judge ruled that the Trump administration cannot proceed with a plan to cut FEMA staffing by 50%. U.S. District Judge Susan Illston found that Homeland Security officials demanded the reduction over objections from FEMA supervisors and despite congressional protections for the agency. The decision preserves emergency-response capacity during hurricane season and is another legal setback for the administration’s push to shrink the federal workforce. The next question is whether the government appeals or comes back with a narrower restructuring plan.

La Liga: Barcelona at Levante today — Barcelona 92% (+6)

Polymarket · $1.4M traded

La Liga: Barcelona visit Levante today at 10:15am ET, and Polymarket prices a Barcelona win at 92%, up six points over the past day. The sportsbooks make it 83%. The form gap explains the confidence: Barcelona have won all four league games and scored 17 goals, while Levante sit on 5 points from four, per Sports Mole, whose own pre-match model had Barcelona at only about 62% before the latest form update. The spread market goes further: Barcelona covering −2.5 sits at 57% (+9.5), so a three-goal margin is priced just above a coin flip. We’re wrong if Levante keep it within two.

Clarity Act signed into law in 2026 — 28% (+9)

Polymarket · $528K traded

Crypto policy: the Clarity Act (H.R. 3633), the bill that would set rules for U.S. digital-asset markets, jumped nine points to 28% to become law in 2026, on $528K of trading. The catalyst is procedural. Senate Republicans released a 630-page updated text on Thursday that adds CFTC registration for non-decentralized DeFi and folds in 114 Democratic provisions, and a cloture vote is scheduled for Tuesday, CryptoBriefing reports. At 28% with 110 days to the deadline, the market still says the bill more likely stalls than gets signed. We’d change our mind above 50%.

Big Ten title: Ohio State 38% (+6), Indiana 28% (+9), Oregon 10% (−14)

Kalshi · 34K contracts

College football: the Big Ten championship market on Kalshi reshuffled after Saturday’s games, which included Ohio State’s loss at Texas and Oregon’s loss at Oklahoma State. Ohio State rose to 38% (+6) and Indiana to 28% (+9). Oregon fell to 10% (−14), the one move with an obvious cause: a loss to an unranked team. Three schools now hold roughly three-quarters of the conference-title odds, with Michigan at 6%.

2028 presidential winner: Marco Rubio — 11.1% (+2.5)

Polymarket · $148K traded · Kalshi · 36K contracts

2028 presidential election: Marco Rubio to win the presidency drifted up to 11.1% (+2.5) on Polymarket over the past day. The Kalshi contract sits at 12% (+1), which puts him level with Jon Ossoff’s 12% and ahead of Gavin Newsom’s 8% on that exchange. No headline in our digest explains the move. Two years out, the money is spread thin: no name in our digest clears 12%.

04 Futures

The Fed’s hike curve has a kink in it: 81% this week, 83% by October, 93% by December. We’ll buy the middle.

The hike-by-October leg is priced like a rounding error on Wednesday’s decision. The December legs say a hike is coming either way — so who is right about the six weeks in between?

Federal Reserve rate decision, Wednesday: Polymarket prices a 25-basis-point hike at 79%, plus 0.7% for 50 or more. The Kalshi mirror shows 79% and 2%, and Kalshi’s “rate above 3.75% after September” leg sits at 81%. Step out one meeting: “Fed rate hike by October” is 83% (−1.5) on $72K volume and $334K liquidity. Step to December: “Fed rate hike in 2026” is 90% (+2), and its Kalshi mirror, “above 3.75% in December,” is 93% (+5). Listed resolution is Dec 8, 86 days out.

Do the subtraction. The curve gives a September skip roughly 19 to 20 points of probability. If the Fed does skip, the October leg says only 2 to 3 of those points get rescued six weeks later, while the December legs rescue 7 to 10 more. In plain terms, the market says a Fed that pauses Wednesday is two to five times likelier to make its first hike in December than in October. The data argue for a Fed in a hurry. Friday’s August CPI report showed core prices up 0.3% on the month against a 0.2% forecast and headline up 0.4%; CBS News reports that lifted CME FedWatch odds of a quarter-point September hike to about 90% from about 70%, with 93 basis points of tightening now priced over 12 months. Bloomberg noted markets pricing about 22 basis points at the next meeting and a steeper path after it. Ninety-three points of cumulative tightening means more than one hike, which makes October a live meeting rather than a footnote. The Kalshi CPI bracket (above 3.6% year over year at 27%) settles Oct 14, inside the window. Our estimate: October is too low; splitting the September–December gap evenly puts it nearer 87%. The case against: a September hold would signal a committee that wants a full quarter of data, not six weeks, and October’s (−1.5) against December’s (+5) is that view gaining ground. We’re wrong if the Fed holds Wednesday and the new dot plot points to one late-year move. Watch Wednesday first.

Bottom line: YES on “Fed rate hike by October 2026 meeting” at 83% — listed to Dec 8, but it can settle Wednesday, and the October meeting is the last shot either way.
05 The Slip

Today’s markets deciding — a side, a price, a time. Trade idea means a documented edge; price to watch means a stated price would change our mind; watch means worth reading, no edge claimed. All markets open at send.

PRICE TO WATCH · ROCKIES @ TIGERS — ROCKIES WIN · YES @ 40% · KALSHI · Today 12:11pm ET

MLB, Colorado at Detroit. Sportsbook consensus makes the Rockies 42% (Rockies +1.5), and Kalshi sells them at 40%. That 2-point gap is short of our 3-point bar. Below 39% it becomes a trade; at 42% it is fair.

WATCH · BILLS @ TEXANS — BILLS WIN · YES @ 53% · KALSHI · Today 1:00pm ET

NFL Week 1, Buffalo at Houston. Sportsbooks make it Bills −1, about 51%; Kalshi has the Bills at 53% and the Texans at 48% versus the books’ 49%. It is the heaviest NFL market on Kalshi today (827K contracts on the Texans side), and there is no gap to claim.

WATCH · BEARS @ PANTHERS — BEARS WIN · YES @ 60% · KALSHI · Today 1:00pm ET

NFL Week 1, Chicago at Carolina. Sportsbooks make it Bears −3, about 61%; Kalshi has 60%. One point apart across nine sportsbooks means no edge. It is simply the second-heaviest NFL market on Kalshi (348K contracts).

WATCH · US OPEN — ZVEREV VS. SHELTON — ZVEREV WIN · YES @ 59% · KALSHI · Today 2:00pm ET

US Open men’s tennis final. Kalshi prices Zverev at 59% and the Polymarket mirror at 59%; Shelton is 43% on Kalshi. We have no sportsbook line in our data, so we claim no gap. It is Kalshi’s highest-volume sports market today, at 1.5M contracts across both sides.

Track record: 44 open calls, none graded yet. Only trade ideas and Futures calls are scored; calls are graded when their markets resolve, and wins and misses both stay published.

07 The Longshot

The market makes Eric Trump 1-in-500 for the 2028 Republican nomination. $204K traded on it in a day.

A two-year-out contract on the president’s son, a deep pool of sellers, and a price that doubled without anyone noticing.

2028 presidential politics: this Polymarket contract asks whether Eric Trump, the president’s son, wins the 2028 Republican presidential nomination. It settles in November 2028 and prices him at 0.2% this morning, up (+0.1) on the day. That tenth of a point is the whole story. The market sat near 0.1% a day earlier, so the move is a doubling. Volume was $204K over 24 hours against $1.6M of liquidity, which means the buyers found sellers happy to lay 500-to-1 and willing to keep doing it without demanding a higher price. Kalshi lists no Eric Trump row in our data, so this is a single-venue contract.

What has to happen: the 22nd Amendment bars the father from a third term, so the only way a Trump tops the 2028 ticket is a different Trump. This contract pays only if Eric is the party’s formal nominee, not a candidate or a frontrunner. Our digest offers no precedent for a sitting president’s son taking his party’s nomination, so there is no base rate to lean on and we will not invent one. The money tells us what this is not: $204K is 13% of the pool, and the price barely flinched, which looks like small bettors buying lottery tickets from patient sellers rather than anyone acting on information. Our read: at 0.2%, this is entertainment priced as entertainment. It is cheap enough to screenshot, and the sellers are the ones collecting. ↗
