What happened in the last 24 hours — the stories the money will react to.
Iran Markets Hold Steady: U.S. Invasion Before 2027 at 16%
Polymarket’s two Iran contracts are among the most-traded world markets on the board this morning. The question of whether the U.S. invades Iran before 2027 drew $311K in 24 hours and sits at 16%. The companion contract, on whether the U.S. announces an end to the Iranian blockade by December 31, drew $129K and sits at 59.8%, off 0.3 points. Both settle at the end of the year, 104 days from now.
Polymarket prices a 16% chance the U.S. invades Iran before 2027 and a 59.8% chance the U.S. announces an end to the Iranian blockade by the end of 2026.
Bills Contract Traded at 99.9% Late Thursday as Whales Piled In
Polymarket’s Lions vs. Bills contract for Thursday Night Football drew more than $4M of six- and seven-figure Bills buys on Thursday: halvanicus put $2.0M on Buffalo at 70.4% at 4:28pm ET, kindar added $692K at 70%, ethanaz paid 94% for $205K at 9:45pm ET, and TheMonaLisaCode bought $111K at 99.9% at 11:11pm ET. That last print is a price, not a result: the market has not yet been marked settled in our data.
Overnight, Kalshi prices the Bills at 12% to win Super Bowl LXI, 71% to win the AFC East, and Allen at 26% for NFL MVP.
Midterm Balance of Power: Republican Sweep Priced at 11%
Polymarket’s balance-of-power market for the 2026 midterms gives the combination of a Republican Senate and a Republican House an 11% chance. The contract drew $128K in 24 hours against $449K of liquidity and settles on Monday, November 2, 45 days from now. It is the most liquid of the midterm contracts on the board this morning.
Polymarket’s midterm balance-of-power market gives Republicans an 11% chance of holding both the Senate and the House.
Dodgers 74% Favorites at San Francisco Tonight
Kalshi’s second most-traded baseball game of the day is San Francisco vs. Los Angeles, first pitch 10:15pm ET tonight. The Dodgers sit at 74%, down 2 points in 24 hours, with the Giants at 27%, up 1. Some 72,717 contracts changed hands on the game in the last 24 hours, second only to Toronto–Texas on the baseball board.
Tonight’s game is the traded question: Kalshi prices the Dodgers at 74% to beat San Francisco.
Jobless Claims at 196,000, Undercutting Labor Fears
The U.S. labor market sent another firm signal: initial unemployment claims came in at 196,000 for the week ended September 12, with the four-week average at 203,250. Layoffs remain scarce after August payrolls rose 162,000 and the unemployment rate held at 4.1%, which makes a quick jump in the rate less likely. The September employment report is due October 2.
Kalshi’s October Fed-decision market is split almost evenly: 49% for a 25bp hike and 50% for no change. Our read: a labor market this steady is what keeps the hike case alive.
Russia’s Parliamentary Election Settles in 11 Days
Polymarket’s contracts on Russia’s parliamentary election are the busiest world-politics markets on the board. United Russia to gain the most seats sits at 77%, up 2 points on $540K of 24-hour volume; the separately worded contract on United Russia to win the most seats sits at 99.6%. Both settle on Tuesday, September 29. Read the wording before trading: the two questions are not the same, and the 22-point gap between them is the market telling you so.
Related: Polymarket prices Putin out as President of Russia by December 31 at 5%, down 1 point.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state election: SPD to win most seats — 57% (+29); AfD 43% (−30)
The Polymarket contract on which party wins the most seats in Germany’s northeastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has swapped favorites in the last 24 hours. The far-right AfD dropped from 73% to 43%; the center-left SPD climbed from 28% to 57%. Our read: a 30-point swing on $363K of combined volume against roughly $197K of displayed liquidity is a thin market repricing fast, and the two sides now sit close enough to a coin flip that the next print matters more than the last one. The contract settles tomorrow at 8pm ET.
View market ↗NFL after Thursday night: Josh Allen for MVP — 26% (+9); Lions to win the NFC North 26% (−9)
Thursday Night Football: Polymarket’s Lions vs. Bills contract last traded at 99.9% for Buffalo at 11:11pm ET, pending official settlement. The season-long markets moved with it. Allen’s MVP odds jumped nine points to 26%. The Bills’ AFC East odds rose to 71% (+6). Detroit’s NFC North odds fell nine points to 26%, and the Chicago Bears’ climbed to 40% (+9). Our read: one game repriced four season-long questions.
Bitcoin above $78,000 at noon ET today — 62.1% (+52.1)
Bitcoin’s daily price contract asks whether it sits above $78,000 at noon ET today. Chaincatcher reports Bitcoin broke through $78,000 after this week’s Fed decision, as traders who had bet on a drop were forced to buy back. The contract swung from 10% to 62.1% (priced at 6:06am ET; settles noon ET). The $80,000 version sits at 4.6% (+1.4). Our read: the market expects Bitcoin to hold this level today, not to run much higher.
View market ↗One in four that unemployment hits 4.3% this fall? Jobless claims at 196,000 say that’s too generous.
Initial claims are running near their lowest level in six decades, and the October unemployment brackets have not caught up.
Kalshi asks whether October’s U.S. unemployment rate comes in above 4.2%, meaning a reading of 4.3% or higher. YES trades at 27% and NO at 73%.
A second Kalshi contract asks whether the rate tops 4.1%; its YES trades at 61%, and it pays on a 4.2% reading while this one does not. Both settle on the October jobs report, which the Bureau of Labor Statistics has scheduled for November 6 at 8:30am ET. One caution: roughly $146 is available at the posted price, so this is a view more than a trade you can size.
Start with the facts. Initial jobless claims came in at 196,000 in the week ended September 12, and the four-week average is 203,250 — near the lowest readings in roughly six decades. August unemployment was 4.1%, with payrolls +162,000. Layoff announcements remain low.
Our arithmetic: monthly changes in the rate have averaged −0.02 points with a typical swing of 0.08, and a random walk from 4.1% puts a 4.3%-or-higher October reading near 5%. Allowing for household-survey noise and an unrounded rate that may sit nearer 4.15%, our estimate is roughly 10–14% — about half the market’s 27%.
The case against: two one-tenth upticks in a row get there, and the household survey is noisier month to month than the recent 0.08-point swing suggests, so a 4.3% print on noise alone is not far-fetched.
We’re wrong if the September report, due October 2, prints 4.2%. One risk we cannot price: an October 1 funding lapse could mean no October household survey at all, as happened in 2025, and we do not know how the contract settles without a number. Watch weekly claims on Thursdays, the October 2 report, and October 1 in Washington.
Today’s markets deciding — a side, a price, a time. Trade idea means a documented edge; price to watch means a stated price would change our mind; watch means worth reading, no edge claimed. All markets open at send.
College football’s most-traded game today (897,847 contracts) has Oregon at 99% to win, so the only live question is the margin. The market on Oregon winning by more than 57.5 points sits at 48%, and the 68.5-point total sits at 50%.
The one competitive college football game tonight: 352,410 contracts traded, Texas Tech at 74% against Houston at 27%, with the underdog up a point in 24 hours.
Baseball’s most-traded game today (74,549 contracts in 24 hours): Toronto at 57%, up two points, and Texas at 44%, drifting the other way.
The day’s biggest baseball repricing: Cleveland at 65%, up five in 24 hours, with the A’s down seven to 35% on 50,423 contracts. No public catalyst explains the move.
Premier League Friday: Chelsea at 41%, Brentford at 36% at home, and the draw takes the rest. Polymarket’s version of the same question has Chelsea at 39% on $196K of 24-hour volume.
The biggest individual trades of the last 24 hours — who put money down, how much, and how it went.
One account took the other side of Thursday’s NFL game through a different contract: $243K on the Lions to cover a 6.5-point spread at 54%. That is a bet Detroit stays within a touchdown, not that it wins.
François Ruffin is 0.6% to be France’s next president. $566K traded on it in a day.
The contract pays only if he actually wins the 2027 election — and a single day’s trading ran four times the money available in the market.
France’s 2027 presidential election settles on Polymarket 223 days from now. One contract gives François Ruffin a 0.6% chance of winning it, up (+0.3) in 24 hours. Some $566K changed hands on that question in a day, against $135K of displayed liquidity, which is the money waiting to be traded against. That is four dollars of turnover for every dollar available, on a candidate the price treats as a rounding error.
To pay out, Ruffin has to win the presidency itself, not lead a poll or clear the first of France’s two rounds, and the contract settles April 29, 2027. There is no base rate to lean on, and we will not invent one. Our read: the 0.6% is information, and the information is “almost certainly not.” The $566K is not information. Heavy trading is no evidence that anyone knows a candidacy or endorsement is coming, and a near-certain NO is not a guaranteed payout: winning shares pay $1, losing shares pay nothing. Entertainment, with a serious price attached. ↗
