Carneiro’s 48-Yarder Saves No. 9 Ole Miss, 41-38

College football’s only Week 1 matchup between ranked teams ended with Lucas Carneiro kicking a 48-yard field goal as time expired, lifting No. 9 Ole Miss over No. 24 Louisville. The teams combined for 63 second-half points, with Rebels quarterback Trinidad Chambliss throwing for 336 yards and Deuce Alexander adding 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The escape gives first-year coach Pete Golding an immediate ranked win and keeps Ole Miss in the top-10 and playoff conversation. Louisville’s late comeback should limit the damage, but the Cardinals are likely to fall when the AP poll updates Tuesday.

The digest has no market on Ole Miss or Louisville, but college football bettors coming off that Week 1 ranked thriller get one more game tonight: Kalshi prices SMU at 57% to beat Florida State — dead even with the de-vigged books consensus of 57%, where the line is SMU -2.5 across 9 books.

Tiafoe Ousts Medvedev; Five Americans Reach U.S. Open Quarters

The U.S. Open sent five Americans into the singles quarterfinals Sunday, led by Frances Tiafoe’s 7-6, 6-4, 7-6 upset of former champion Daniil Medvedev. Carlos Alcaraz beat Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-3, 6-4, while top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka eliminated Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-3. Tiafoe now faces Alex Michelsen, which guarantees an American man a semifinal berth, while Ben Shelton gets the harder assignment against Alcaraz. Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro also advanced, expanding the home contingent’s title chances considerably.

Frances Tiafoe’s upset of Medvedev has Kalshi opening his quarterfinal as a 58% favorite, while Polymarket now gives Carlos Alcaraz — who cruised past Tommy Paul — a 57% chance (up 9 points in a day) to win the whole 2026 Men's US Open.

No. 19 SMU Tests Norvell, Florida State Tonight

College football’s Labor Day finale sends No. 19 SMU to Florida State for a 7:30 p.m. ET ACC game on ESPN. SMU opens its season after going 9-4 in 2025, while Florida State is 1-0 following an uneven 34-17 victory over New Mexico State. The winner gets an early conference tiebreaker and a credible path toward challenging Miami for the ACC title. A poor home loss would sharply increase the pressure on Seminoles coach Mike Norvell after last year’s 5-7 finish.

Ahead of tonight’s Labor Day finale, the sportsbooks make SMU a 2.5-point favorite in Tallahassee and Kalshi agrees, pricing the Mustangs at 57% against Florida State at 43%.

Trump Takes Mail-Ballot Restrictions Back to Supreme Court

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Sunday to revive restrictions on mail ballots before November’s congressional elections. A federal judge has blocked the Postal Service from enforcing the president’s executive order while states begin distributing ballots. North Carolina has already started mailing them, Alabama begins September 9, and at least five more states follow during the week of September 13. With nearly one-third of voters using mail ballots, the justices’ response could alter election procedures with little time for states to adjust.

Labor Day Gas Hits Record $4.14; Diesel Reaches $5.85

The U.S. fuel market entered Labor Day with regular gasoline averaging a holiday-record $4.14 a gallon, nearly a dollar above last year. Diesel reached an all-time national average of $5.85 on Friday, raising transportation costs that can flow into groceries and package deliveries. The Iran war, severely reduced traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and refinery problems have kept fuel supplies tight. The next test is whether cheaper winter gasoline blends provide relief while the strait remains constrained.

Even as diesel hit a record $5.85, traders slashed bets on further spikes — the market on diesel topping $6.10 by September 30 collapsed from 81% to 49% in about 12 hours, while odds it stays above $5.70 climbed to 88%.

Lowell Triggers Kauai Hurricane Warning, Oahu Storm Watch

Hurricane Lowell was a 115-mph storm early Monday, about 375 miles southwest of Lihue and moving north-northeast at 14 mph. A hurricane warning covers Kauai County, including Kauai and Niihau, while a new tropical-storm watch is in effect for Oahu. The storm’s track shifted closer to the western islands, increasing the threat of damaging winds, flash flooding, mudslides and dangerous surf later Monday. Hurricane Hunter aircraft will provide the next major intensity check as Lowell approaches its closest pass.

03 Biggest Movers

US Open: Andreeva vs Potapova — Andreeva 64% (−21)

Polymarket · $802K traded · Kalshi · 3.2M contracts

US Open women’s round of 16: fifth seed Mirra Andreeva plays Anastasia Potapova today, and the past day’s money kept shrinking the favorite — Andreeva down to 64% on Polymarket, Potapova bid up to 37% (+21) on the Kalshi mirror. The repricing follows Potapova’s 6-2, 7-5 upset of 10th seed Amanda Anisimova, which put her in a US Open fourth round for the first time. Andreeva still leads their head-to-head 3-1, but the heaviest tennis flow of the day now prices a genuine contest where a routine win once stood.

Diesel above $6.10 by Sept 30 — 49% (−32)

YND Engine · last ~12 hours

US diesel prices, measured September 30: the entire bracket ladder repriced in about twelve hours. Above $6.10 fell 81% → 49%, above $6.30 70% → 39%, above $5.90 93% → 69% — while above $5.70 firmed to 88%. The market now expects month-end diesel in the high-$5s, not north of $6: cheaper fuel than feared.

Carlos Alcaraz wins the men’s US Open — 57% (+9)

Polymarket · $215K traded

Men’s US Open champion futures: Carlos Alcaraz climbed 9 points over the past day to 57%, with the market settling by Saturday. The move tracks his Sunday result — a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 dismissal of Tommy Paul in the fourth round — and he now draws American Ben Shelton in the quarterfinals, the toughest assignment left before the semis.

Merz out as German chancellor before 2027 — 14% (−4)

Polymarket · $66K traded

German politics: Sachsen-Anhalt held a state election Sunday, and the market’s 42–45% vote-share band for the far-right AfD resolved YES (finalization pending). The chancellor-exit market eased 4 points to 14% anyway. The read: a big AfD state number, but not the kind of earthquake that breaks Friedrich Merz’s coalition this year.

August CPI above 3.4% year-over-year — 25% (+6)

Kalshi · 12.5K contracts

Friday’s US inflation report: the odds that the year-over-year number lands above 3.4% rose 6 points to 25%, while above 3.5% sits at 10%. Trading in economics markets is intensifying — our in-house measure of that activity, the YND Economics Desk Heat index, jumped 3.6 points to 5. A one-in-four chance inflation stays that sticky sits alongside a Fed market pricing a September hike at 51%.

Tanker traffic doesn’t come back on vibes — Hormuz “back to normal” at 24% is roughly double fair

The Iran curve prices escalation everywhere except this one market. We’re taking the other side of the optimism.

“Strait of Hormuz traffic returns to normal by December 31?” trades at 24% (−1), with $84K in 24-hour volume against $458K of liquidity, resolving Dec 30 — 114 days out. The neighboring markets: a US–Iran nuclear deal by year-end sits at 9% (−2), the Israel–Iran ceasefire holding through Dec 31 at 64%, and Israel closing its own airspace by September 30 at 76% (+3). The near leg — normal traffic by September 15 — is priced as a near-certain no, where one account put $106K on NO at 99.6%.

For tanker traffic to “return to normal,” insurers and shippers need sustained calm, and the water says the opposite. Reuters-cited transit data show average daily crossings fell to ten ships this weekend — the lowest since May, with just 2 vessels Saturday and 6 Sunday against a pre-crisis baseline of roughly 138 a day — after US strikes on three Iranian tankers and Iranian retaliation. Russia’s Kommersant reports the IRGC navy targeted three oil tankers Saturday in direct answer to US Central Command strikes off Kharg Island. The market’s own neighbors don’t price calm either: the same event family gives the ceasefire a 36% chance of breaking by New Year’s, a formal US–Iran deal 9%, and Israel closing its airspace this month 76%. A 24% normalization asks you to believe shipping fully recovers while ships are being shot at. Our read: fair is 10–15%. The strongest case against us: Windward’s daily intelligence logged 12 AIS-compliant transits on September 6 with no dark crossings — limited but steady flow — and normalization needs no signed deal, just a quiet autumn. We’re wrong if the airspace market heads toward NO and the ceasefire legs climb through the 90s — watch the September 30 markets first.

Bottom line: NO on Hormuz traffic back to normal by Dec 31 at 76% — a YES can land any day the tankers return, but the rest of the Iran curve says we collect at the deadline, 114 days out.

Today’s picks — a side, a price, a time. All markets open at send.

SMU @ FLORIDA STATE — SMU WIN · YES @ 57% · KALSHI · Tonight 11:30pm ET

The Labor Day college football marquee. Books lay SMU −2.5 and de-vig to 57%; Kalshi prints the same 57% on 664K contracts. Fair price on the road favorite — this one’s about the game, not an edge.

REDS @ DODGERS — DODGERS WIN · YES @ 62% · KALSHI · Tonight 9:11pm ET

Nine books de-vig LA to 61% with a −1.5 line; Kalshi asks 62%. No discount, but the sharpest event prices in sports back the favorite in tonight’s late window.

CARDINALS @ GIANTS — ST. LOUIS WIN · YES @ 45% · KALSHI · Tonight 8:11pm ET

The board’s only underdog discount: books make St. Louis 46%, Kalshi sells the same side at 45%. One point isn’t a windfall, but it’s the right direction on a coin-flip game.

LECCE @ CAGLIARI — CAGLIARI WIN · YES @ 44% · KALSHI · Today 12:30pm ET

Serie A’s early game: books lay Cagliari −0.5 and de-vig the hosts to 45%; Kalshi matches at 45%. The mirror Polymarket contract trades 44% on $708K — consensus everywhere, home side favored.

Track record: 26 open calls, graded no graded calls yet so far. Grading is automatic when markets resolve; wins and misses both stay published.

06 Biggest Trades

The biggest individual trades of the last 24 hours — who put money down, how much, and how it went.

BIG BET 3edmond.dantes $1.94M Will Manchester United FC win on 2026-09-06? YES @ 48–51% This account stacked nine separate Sunday-morning buys on Manchester United to win, all at near coin-flip prices. Each $1 staked paid roughly $2 if United won.
BIG BET BillyGating $436K Counter-Strike: Spirit vs MOUZ (BLAST Open Porto Playoffs) SPIRIT @ 62% One account put $436K on Team Spirit at 62% to beat MOUZ in Sunday’s professional Counter-Strike playoff, a video-game tournament match. The wager, not the game, is the story: that’s a house-sized single click.
BIG BET 0xwise $108K US Open ATP: Ben Shelton vs Stefanos Tsitsipas TSITSIPAS @ 28% US Open men’s draw: $108K Sunday on underdog Tsitsipas at 28% — each $1 pays about $3.57 if he beats Shelton.
BIG BET DonaldinhoTrumpito $106K Strait of Hormuz traffic returns to normal by September 15? NO @ 99.6% Early Monday: $106K that Gulf shipping stays disrupted, bought at 99.6% — the win pays roughly $400; a surprise reopening loses it all.

The Manchester United market drew money both ways: robban888 bought $110K of NO at 50% minutes after dantes’ largest buys.

07 The Longshot

The 500-to-1 Champions League Ticket That Traded $403K in a Day

Shakhtar Donetsk at 0.2% is priced like a rounding error — so why did more money change hands in 24 hours than sits in the entire pool?

Shakhtar Donetsk, the Ukrainian soccer club, is priced at 0.2% — 500-to-1 — to win the 2026-27 UEFA Champions League, a market that doesn’t settle until May 30, 2027, a full 265 days from this morning. The strange part isn’t the price. It’s that this near-zero contract turned over $403K in twenty-four hours — enough to crack the day’s top-ten volume list — against just $342K of resting liquidity. A single day’s trading exceeded everything available to trade against.

For this to pay, Shakhtar would have to outlast every superclub in Europe across a nine-month campaign. The nearest base rate on the board: Brentford sits at 0.3% to win the Premier League — a longshot against just 19 domestic rivals — and Shakhtar is priced below that against the whole continent. The volume math says this isn’t buy-and-hold lottery money; when daily turnover beats the pool, the same dollars are cycling through a thin market — sellers collecting a fraction of a point of yield, buyers paying it for a nine-month dream. Our read: the price is information, and the $403K is the entertainment. ↗
